While I'm making feature suggestions, there's one other addition to the new Site Designer that I think would make a
huge
difference to what creators can actually build with Custom Pages.
At the moment, the Site Designer gives us a selection of pre-built content blocks/widgets, such as:
* Videos
* Storefront
* Photo Sets
* Stories
* Custom Pages
These are great for displaying existing content, but I'd really love to see a
Custom Text / Rich Text content block
added as well.
At the moment, there doesn't seem to be a proper way to add a substantial amount of creator-written text to a page.
I'm not asking for an extremely complicated page-builder or the ability to create enormous walls of text. Even a relatively simple text block would be incredibly useful — something where creators could type their own content and apply basic formatting such as:
* Bold
* Italics
* Paragraph breaks
* Headings or larger text
* Bullet points
* Links
* Emojis
The reason I'm asking is that I've been experimenting with Custom Pages and trying to build some more elaborate, themed experiences for my members.
For example, I would love to create a themed page around an interactive game or fantasy experience, with an introduction, instructions, rules, descriptions of different stages, explanations of rewards, etc.
At the moment, I've been trying to use the
Hero section
as a workaround for this, but that's really not what the Hero section is designed for. Once published, large amounts of introductory text in that area don't look particularly attractive or well structured.
A dedicated Custom Text block would solve this very simply.
It would allow creators to combine:
Custom text + existing content widgets + custom pages + future interactive/PPV elements
into a properly designed experience.
I think this would also make the new Site Designer considerably more useful for creators who want their websites to feel more like
actual branded destinations
, rather than simply a collection of automatically populated content feeds.
For example, a creator could build a themed page with:
TITLE / INTRODUCTION
↓
RULES & INSTRUCTIONS
↓
CUSTOM TEXT / STORY
↓
VIDEO OR PHOTO CONTENT
↓
STORE / PURCHASE OPTIONS
↓
ANOTHER CUSTOM PAGE
At the moment, we have lots of excellent content widgets, but we're missing the basic building block that allows the creator to actually
write around those widgets
.
So even if the initial version were very simple, I would absolutely love to see a
Custom Text / Rich Text Content Block
added to the Site Designer.
I think it would be a relatively straightforward feature that would give creators considerably more freedom in how they design their pages.
