It would be great if we could send emails/newsletters to specific groups of people we can create rather than just one group.

We'll shortly have much more powerful filtering on the mass messaging including a new tag system that will allow you to group and message members based on custom criteria.

Filtering mass mailouts by member status would allow you to target specific sets of users. e.g. send an email exclusively to expired members with a special offer.
